HELLAS
DANCE TROUPE
The Hellas Dance Troupe was established at the Macedonian Cultural Center (which is located at 8350 N. Lincoln Avenue, in Skokie) in 1997.
The dance troupe’s purpose is to continue the Hellenic traditions and dances that have been passed down from generation to generation. The troupe performs dances from mainland Greece, the Greek Islands, Asia Minor, Pontos, and Cyprus.
The aim is to educate dancers on the history behind the dances as well as the history of the costumes and their meanings in relation to Greek culture, with an emphasis on Macedonian dance and folklore.
We are proud to have performed at various functions such as Mayor Daley’s Greek Independence Day Reception and to march as the Honorary Guard in the Greek-American parade from 1998-2008.
Our dance troupe is fortunate to have talented instructors and dancers that teach dances to various schools and Churches throughout the Chicago land area. Being a not-for-profit organization,
the Hellas Dance Troupe has an annual membership fee of only $50 per person, for the first year and $25 for each consecutive year, for the sole purpose of maintaining our costumes.
We do not charge for performances, however we do encourage and accept donations. We welcome everyone, young or old, to join our dance troupe, where practices are held every 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month from 5:00pm to 7:00pm (excluding days of performances),
at the Macedonian Cultural Center.
